Mayfair was another success which celebrated the culture of the Mackay
West state School community. A very large crowd of parents, staff,
children and friends of the school community
enjoyed
the many attractions and activities of the Fair.

Mackay City Council Library Service
Mackay West State School Library
As
you are aware, Margaret Spillman (Teacher-Librarian), Lorraine Todd
(Teacher-Aide) along with Claire Grandcourt from Mackay Libraries have
initiated a range of initiatives in the school during the past few years
which they have labelled Productive Partnerships. These
include Work Shadowing, an enhanced Library Monitor program, the GOAL
(Grade Ones at the Library) program, underpinned and supported by the
continued development of the excellent school website. This team
has received many accolades for their work. It is with much pride and
pleasure that I report to you that this team has received another honour
in winning first place in Australia in the
IASL
(International Association of School Librarianship)/Softlink Excellence
Award.
Basically, this award is made to teams/individuals who make outstanding
contributions to school librarianship. This healthy and
well-developed partnership between our school library and Mackay
Libraries has been recognised for providing a sound base and fostering a
quality learning environment for our students to access, to enhance and
develop their learning outcomes. Congratulations to this team for
this outstanding recognition of their work.
