Public libraries provide a learning network that runs parallel with formal school education.  The central activity of all libraries in promoting reading is a key element of their role in supporting learning.  Reading and literacy are inextricably linked for all school and public libraries.  Improved learning outcomes are the result when all libraries forge partnerships in the learning process.

Through our continued relationship with the Mackay City Council Library Service (MCCLS) and the introduction of the GOAL Project (Grade Ones At the Library) Student Membership of MCCLS has increased to 90% (see graph below).

Show what other resources are available so that informed information choices can be made.

Access to specialised suppliers of Primary school Non-Fiction.

Improved selection of resources, especially of Reference and Non-Fiction, for Mackay West State School Library.

Increase in amount of reading material borrowed and corresponding literacy levels (see Denver Study No. 150 - October 7, 1998).

Greater familiarity with key staff in young People's Section of Mackay City Council Library Services.

Each Librarian and Library Assistant more aware of each other's job description/role.

Encourage children to become comfortable with the public library, its resources and staff.

Provides effective support system for student learning according to American research.

Assists preschools in school readiness and literacy development through such activities as story-time.

Creates opportunities for shared learning.

Recognition of Education Queensland as in the forefront of experience in workshadowing.
